The University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) mourns the passing of Mr. James Moss-Solomon and offers condolences to his family, and friends.

The late Moss-Solomon, aka Jimmy, played a major role as Board Chairman at the UHWI from November 17, 2015, to June 30, 2019. He was very instrumental in the reopening of the Mammography Unit, with 3D Technology (1^st of its kind in the Government Sector), State-of-the-Art Interventional Suite (Catheterization Lab), the acquisition of digital X-ray equipment for the Diagnostic & Interventional Radiology Department just to name a few. His contribution was immense and far-reaching. Jimmy was a true believer in integration.

He was a man of great intellect, vision, and courage who contributed profoundly to the cause of the Hospital’s development. He dedicated himself to building bridges to a better future and in this way, he touched the lives of all those he met at the Hospital.

Today, we mourn the passing of a great son of the Jamaican soil, who has left behind a powerful legacy of humility, simplicity, and dedication in our struggle for a better health care system.

“He was a great man, an exceptional leader, a role model, and a friend. Even when he was no longer Board Chair, he was still very much involved and wanted to ensure that the Hospital was offering the best care to Jamaicans. Giving back to the UHWI was always a part of his mission.
