Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Chief Pharmacist 1 (Radiopharmacist) (HPC/PHS 3) at the University Hospital of the West Indies.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Under the general direction of the Director Pharmacy Services, the Chief Pharmacist (Radiopharmacist) is responsible for:
- Communicating with consultant physicists concerning radiation protection.
- Negotiating with suppliers concerning the purchase, supply and quality of radiopharmaceuticals and the resolution of any resulting issues.
- Communicating with national and international colleagues and organizations regarding the implementation of guidelines relating to radio-pharmacy.
- Working effectively and efficiently with other staff members of the Department of Pharmacy.
- Providing pharmaceutical care to patients attending Nuclear Medicine Department.
- Leading in the establishment of systems to assure the management of risk and compliance of pharmaceutical services with Health and Safety legislation and with security policies.
- Planning budgets and monitoring the expenditure, for staffing and delivery of services within the areas of responsibility.
- Participating in the extended hours service, out of hours service, out of hours rota and public holidays as required by the needs of the service.
- Providing advice to consultant clinicians and to consultant radiologists about the choice of radiopharmaceutical to achieve the optimum diagnostic or treatment outcome for the patient.
- Communicate with, consultant clinicians, consultant radiologists, consultant physicists and chief technologists about the use and availability of radiopharmaceuticals.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree in pharmacy, pharmacology
or
- Postgraduate qualification in Radio-pharmacy or demonstrate evidence of knowledge, training, and experience equivalent to that level.
- Possess a wide-ranging experience in one or more branches of pharmacy practice.
- Experience in Aseptic Techniques
- Registrant of the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica and Membership of the Pharmaceutical Society of Jamaica
