The University hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) is the first hospital in Jamaica to join the Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) Program. The launch took place on May 24, 2016 at the main Lecture Theatre. The program began in August 2015 where discussions and meetings were held with stakeholders such as the Registered Nurses Association of Canada (RNOA), University of the West Indies School of Nursing (UHWISON) and Nursing Council of Jamaica (NCJ).

The rational for participating in the BPSO program is to utilize best practice guidelines to help improve our overall standards and patient care. This initiative is driven by our vision “to become a dynamic, environmentally safe, adequately equipped organization with trained highly and motivated staff, dedicated to promoting teaching, research and delivery of the highest quality health care to meet the needs of the region.
