Nurses Week is celebrated nationally the third week in July each year. This coincides with the founding of the Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ) which is celebrated the 19th July.
At the University Hospital of the West Indies we started off with the launch of Nurses week on the 18th July. At this function we announced the Nurse of Excellence for the year 2016-2017.
She is Mrs. Gillian Royes Gibbs, Charge Nurse of Ward 9, Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

The Nurse of Excellence was selected from a total of seven nominees, one nurse from each of the seven programmes. Winner is Mrs. Gillian Royes Gibbs,Charge Nurse Ward 9, Obstetrics & Gynaecology. First runner up is Miss Beverley Clarke, Registered Nurse Ward 14, Child Health, and second runner up is Mrs. Natoya Small Fearon, Charge Nurse Ward 2, Surgery One.
On Friday the 22nd we had a Quiz Competition amongst the programmes. This was very exciting. The defending champions from 2015 were once again victorious. They are the team from Obstetrics & Gynaecology, second place Sugery One , and third Surgery Two. On Tuesday there was a netball match between the nurses and representatives from HRD and Medical Records. The nurses were victorious with a score of 19 to their 17.
