INCUBATOR
The University of the West Indies Development and Endowment Fund donated a Transport incubator for use on the Special Care Nursery. It replaces a similar transport incubator which is no longer fully functional. This transport incubator is of vital importance to the delivery of optimal care to newborns. The incubator will be used to transport newborns from the delivery room to the Special Care Unit in an environment that maintains a temperature similar to that of the intrauterine environment. The incubator will also allow the delivery of oxygen to the newborn and allow monitoring of the newborn while in transit.
DEFIBRILLATORS
The University of the West Indies Development and Endowment Fund in collaboration with Flow Jamaica donated two defibrillators for use on the Medical Floors. When patients are experiencing cardiac arrest, defibrillators are used to deliver an electric shock to stop the irregular rhythm and allow the heart to return to normal rhythm.
